Nanny Recognition Week

8 Ways to Celebrate Your Nanny During National Nanny Recognition Week

Parents, do you employ a nanny? If yes…LISTEN UP! This message is for you: September 22nd-28th is National Nanny Recognition Week.

Yes, it is definitely is a thing! And your nanny likely knows about it. Started in 1998, National Nanny Recognition Week has been designated to celebrate the vital work that nannies do. Your nanny is your right hand, and your go-to person for advice on all-things-childcare. If you are a nanny employer (a “Mom Boss” or “Dad Boss”), please consider recognizing your nanny this week!

Of course, you should always treat your nanny with respect and kindness, but this week, why not surprise your nanny with a thoughtful token of your appreciation? Those that take care of our children deserve a huge “Thanks!” for their compassion, professionalism, and dedication. Read on to learn about how you can spread the love to the person who takes care of your most precious gifts!

1.  A cash bonus or a raise

Who doesn’t love cash? “nuff said.

2. Gift cards to a favorite restaurant or spa

Don’t know your nanny’s favorite restaurant? Ask! Or, offer to take her out to dinner and allow her to choose the spot.

3. Tickets to a concert, a sports event, or show in your area

Is your nanny a sports fan? Loves country music? Adores Broadway? Grab some tickets for her and a date, and send her out for a relaxing, kid-free evening.

 4. A paid day off!

This is probably one of the most well-received gifts that a nanny could receive. With a paid day off, your nanny will not only be able to recharge, but will also have time to do the things she never gets to do during the work week.

5. Have the children make her something special

By far my personal favorite gift from former Nanny Families. Take your kiddos to the local Paint-A-Pot and get creative! Let them browse the Target aisles (or Nordstroms, or wherever else) and pick out something special for one of their favorite people.

6. A membership to the INA or USNA

For $35, you can gift your nanny a membership to the International Nanny Association. For only $25, your nanny can become a part of the US Nanny Association. Why not gift one or both memberships?

 7. Professional development/continuing education

This one is a win-win! There are several great training courses that will help your nanny develop professionally. It is the gift that keeps on giving, to your children and future charges. Check out Amslee Institute or Newborn Care Solutions.

 8. Pay for a need

Does your nanny need new snow tires? Is she interested in taking a college course? Maybe she’d like a new dress but feels guilty spending the money on something “frivolous”.

Whatever you decide to gift your nanny next week, be sure to include a heartfelt card that expresses your appreciation for the work that she does. It feels so wonderful to feel recognized, so let her know how much she means to you (and the kids)! Thank her for going above and beyond to be sure your children are well taken care of and your home is maintained.
